Some questions arising to individuals in
today’s competitive life – Why did I fail to “deliver the goods”, to perform at
the peak of my abilities, right at the time when it was needed the most ?
Inspite of working so hard, why did I score moderate or little number of marks
in the exam, for which I was preparing for a long long time ? Why does my
colleague sitting on the same bench as me, always succeed in beating me in
score, when it really matters ? Why do other employees get promoted faster than
me even though I am working with all sincerity ? Inspite of investing a lot of
money in business and going for comprehensive marketing, why is my Brand/
product not clicking yet ? Is it just my level of confidence or something more
thats not giving me the success I desire ? Inspite of being so talented and
working so hard, why do I always finish second or third and not first ? What
are the qualities/traits which I have been lacking always ? Can I cultivate
them even at this age ? How should I improvise upon my performance to attain a
better rank in the exams or to get promoted to a higher designation at my job ?
Once I achieve that higher rank / designation, what are the ways in which I can
sustain it for a longer period of time ? Amongst so many complexities of life,
how can I always remain “Cheerful and Successful",both at the same time ?
Does Success come with the cost of losing one's humour ( as one has to keep
toiling very hard to become successful and then to retain it,which amounts to a
loss of humour quite often ) ? How should I live my life so that there is so
much of fun in it and at the same time I get a lot of fame for what I am doing
?
When faced by such questions, a guardian or a
senior citizen taking care of you, would generally answer it in two simple
words – “ Work Harder.” Well, by working harder, you might get some temporary
success, which others might define as “fluke” as soon as you start failing once
again. So then what is the exact formula of succeeding in your chosen field and
in life ? What are the necessary ingredients which constitute success?
So much has been said and written by mentors,
motivational speakers and inspiring personalities around the world about “how
to achieve success in life.” However, we Indians of the 21st century are luckier than other
citizens of the globe, since we have a " living example " of an
incredibly and hugely successful human – Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar, with us,
dwelling on the same land as ours ! I thought it would be a great idea to ponder
over the different recipes which make a wonderful 'sweet dish' of 'Success',
with the perspective of Tendulkar’s extraordinary career in mind. What things
did he put into practice, how he kept on recharging himself, how he managed to
pass the gloomiest days of his life, how he came out with flying colors when
almost everyone thought his career had come to an end - lets analyse some
important traits in him.
Since so many of us have seen him playing in those 24 brilliant years ( 1989 to 2013 ) in Test Cricket and One Day Internationals, it would be easier for us, to recall what he did,how he stood apart from others, when it was required to achieve something remarkable, on “that” particular day. This infact, would be very close to, providing practical demonstrations, of the kind of what-to-do and how-to-do,while handling a particular complex situation in a moment of crisis in our personal life, since many of us very much delightfully remember what Sachin did, when he was encircled by exactly the same type of complicated and critical circumstances, while he was playing on the cricket field. Lets take his qualities one by one and see how they apply also to other professional fields apart from cricket and also to personal lives, in this highly competitive age.

Recipe for success :--
==============
In this book, I have stated very clearly and in
a simple language, 21 ways to achieve success, in the form of 21 Qualities/
Traits which Sachin showed on the field and even in his off-the-field life,
from the beginning to the end of his illustrious career. I have enlisted these
21 qualities in the order of how much "useful" they were to him in
achieving his goals.
However,
this recipe of success may not be the same for everyone of us. For example, if
you want to succeed in the forthcoming medical or engineering exams of your
college, then "Perseverance" or "Hardwork" is very
necessary, as you need to read so much about what is going to be asked in your
exam. However, in here you wouldnot so much need another trait mentioned in the
book, called “Street-smart attitude” to help you out. But if you are going to
appear for an interview and you read this book before that, then your smart
attitude will help you a lot and you willnot need perseverance as much, at that
time. So in here, the reader becomes the “alchemist”. Just like how an
alchemist mixes different ingredients like lower value metals and some
chemicals to create the right combination ( usually Gold ) for himself, you
need to know which qualities are already present within yourself and which you
now need to “cultivate”, in order to achieve that “Right” combination.
However if you still find yourself confused and locked in the horns of dilemma
you may very well contact me at my following email address –kbplus2008@gmail.com I
would feel more than delighted to help you out.
Extensive research has proved over the years,
that our “subconscious mind” is always responsible for our success or failure
and if we can deposit such positive thoughts as “what I should be doing,to the
best of my capacities, when I face a certain testing situation”, instead of
getting it all messed up and leaving it to destiny, then it would make a
remarkable difference in the gap between what you have already achieved and
what you “could have” achieved. A deliberate and persistent subconscious effort
to cultivate that particular trait, of remaining positive all the time, within
yourself and even outside, should be made. Its not easy. It might take you days, months
or even years to cultivate it. For example, Rahul Dravid had ample of patience
and hardworking abilities, important ingredients to succeed at the Test match
level, when he made his debut against a strong English side at Lords in 1996.
Through his persistence and perseverance he made 36 test centuries before he
retired from the game,as a legend, in 2012. However, I personally believe
that, for a classic test batsman of the highest caliber as what he was, one day
cricket was not his forte, not his cup of tea. It might have required a lot of
effort on his side, to mould himself to the shorter version of the game, where
strokeplay was more important, rather than technique, of which he was a master
of. I very well remember him, tapping his bat on the ground so many times,
before facing a bowler, when he really intended to play an aggressive stroke in
which he thought he should get runs, instead of an usual defensive stroke. Why
did others like Sehwag not require to keep tapping the ground with the bat,all
that period between the bowler going to the top of his run-up,coming down and
finally delivering the ball ? The reason was obvious. While Sehwag’s natural
game was aggression, Dravid’s natural game was “defense”. So when the need
arose for him to score a four, he subconsciously told his mind that
"anyhow" I should get a four in this delivery. That constant
subconscious deliberation got translated into his tapping the ground so many
times, after which he mostly succeeded in striking a boundary or a sixer !!
What counts is always the end result in any professional field and hence 9 out
of 10 times, Dravid succeeded in getting what he wanted ! It is not important
that he was criticized by some as the one who needs to make a
laborious deliberate effort to play a particular big lofty
stroke. What is important is, through this subconscious act of telling
himself, he was able to achieve what he desired. This is the way, though a very
hard one indeed, in which Dravid aggregated his ten thousand odd runs in the
shorter version of the game. After the initial “grind” which he had to take, it
became easier for him gradually, to freely play his strokes. Those who had
criticized him earlier, also started applauding his “newly found ability” !
Imagine what a huge difference, these subconscious deliberate efforts made to
his great career !!
I have taken the “quotes” of certain great
sportsmen, in this book. Since its not possible to thank them individually, I
thank them here rightnow, for all those great things they have said, that is so
relevant even after so many years. I would also like to state here that I have
taken certain examples in which some sportsmen have been illustrated as not to
have followed a certain set of rules/ adhered to some qualities which they
should have, in order to succeed. Although I have said it in the mildest
possible manner, so that it doesn’t hurt anyone, I hereby, in advance,
apologise for any pain which might have been inflicted upon any individual,
anywhere, due to what I have written in this book. For all those names of
sportsmen, legends or otherwise, which I have taken, I possess a lot of respect
for each and everyone of them,as they have played this great game called
cricket at some point or the other in their life and donot intend to cause any hard
feelings in them.
Intention of this book :--
================
With the background of Sachin Tendulkar in
mind, I have endeavored, to give to the reader, all what is required to achieve
"Success", in any field, anytime, and everywhere on this planet - whether
you are playing a tennis match against the likes of Federer or Jokovich on a
grassy Wimbledon surface, or you are playing against a strong Barcelona side in
a soccer game, or you are facing Mitchel Johnson on a bouncy WACA wicket at
Perth in western Australia, you will find quite a lot which can help you, from
this book.It can also help in your mental struggle to get promoted ahead of a
specific colleague, who has been deliberately trying to dominate you, all the
time pulling your legs, over petty things at your work place in a never-ending
effort to minimize your importance, or if you have been trying to find out how
precisely you can beat the scores of all your classmates to obtain the highest
number of marks in the forthcoming exams of your college or school. It can
serve the purpose of a guide in "how-to-manage-your -home" especially
when things get ugly between your spouse and you !!
Every Quality, every minute detail has been dealt with, in order that, while you read it, nothing remains dubious or confusing. Just like in the movie “The Ten commandments” when Moses, asks God to create a clear path to tread on, amidst the scary seawaves, and God obliges, you yourself, will observe a very clear road to tread on, right before your eyes, with all what you need to do, after reading this book, if you have read it with some real intention and a subconscious, strong desire to change yourself for the better. Here you yourself are the God and you are Moses. Once you finish the book, take a deep breath, close your eyes and ask yourself – which of the above qualities, illustrated here, are still completely missing in me and which ones are partly present and I need to develop them further ? What should be my next course of action ? I can assure you that you won’t require to go anywhere else for the answers.Something within you will answer it in a very definitive and evident manner. Although the perspective is that of Sachin’s career and his life, the obvious purpose is to highlight the "qualities" which he showed and which can help all of us make ourselves more successful and better human beings in life. I hope the readers will find this idealistic type of literature "interesting".
There have been quite a few books written on the theme of " Self-development" or "Motivation". What differentiates this book from those ? Well, here are some points:-- (1) All things change with time. This includes physical objects as well as ideas and concepts too. Those concepts which used to sell like hot-cakes yesterday, may become out-of-context and irrelevant today. This book is about qualities i.e. concepts. In the 21st century certain qualities have become more important whereas some have decreased in their importance. What I have done is to highlight and elaborate at length those qualities that have become more relevant in the present time and age. For example, the quality " Smartness" has gained considerable amount of importance in the modern times, whereas I feel that "Concentration" is a quality which has lost some importance. (Here I donot wish to say that "Concentration" has become an obsolete quality. Not at all. What I mean to say here is that compared to the previous century, "Smartness" has become more relevant compared to "Concentration.") Hence it occupies a better coverage inside this book. Thus, this book describes at length, those qualities which are more relevant in the modern context. The second point which seperates this book is the one-on-one analogy. The 21 qualities that are described have also got another context, i.e. of batting legend Sachin. When did Sachin exhibit that particular quality, the most, during which match, against which opposition, how many runs did he score and against what type of challanging circumstances... all these have been covered alongwith, to highlight that " quality ". This one-on-one analogy will help the reader to be very clear as to what a particular quality actually means in real-life situations, when the odds are against you and the gloves are off. The fact that Sachin could manage a challanging situation keeping a cool head with the help of a certain quality not only shows the character of the batting maestro but also the greatness of that particular quality. The third point of difference is that this book contains more than 50 pictures, which normally other books on "motivation" donot have. These pictures will remind Sachin's fans, of those golden moments that Sachin created on the cricket field and which all of them had enjoyed thoroughly. Pictures help readers create a more evident view of a particular situation. Here too they have done the same. The fourth and the last point which seperates this book from some other books with a similar topic of self-motivation, is an attempt to carry out an indepth analysis of each and every quality, within the premises of my knowledge about them. A genuine attempt has been made that the reader doesnot find any kind of abruptness or shallowness about the different arguments that have been made in this book. The arguments have been made after some analysis and they are based on sound logic. To summarize, let me highlight the second point made above once again -- " A one-on-one analogy between different great Qualities and How Sachin showed them on and off the cricket field " that is the main topic of this book.
That is all what I wanted to say. I dedicate
this book, to my beloved mother Leelavati, who has played
a substantial role in my life,by her philosophy of "Karmaa",always
inspiring me to do something good for the human society and has been a great
role-model for me, over the years.
Ok dear friends, Enjoy reading the book and
have fun….. !!
